I’ll be honest: I struggled with English throughout high school, college, and even during my time in the Air Force. Writing was never something I imagined I’d pursue. But during my years teaching—mostly geometry—at Christ the King High School, something unexpected happened. A spark. A story. An idea that simply wouldn’t leave me alone.

While teaching an elective called Introduction to Aviation, a wild question popped into my mind: What kind of physics breakthrough could reduce drag on an airfoil? That single thought grew into my first novel, Bach’s Air.

I discovered that writing was far more enjoyable than I ever expected. It felt like sitting in a movie theater where the scenes unfolded in front of me—yet I had the freedom to decide what happened next. And thanks to Kindle Direct Publishing, I realized I could share those stories with readers without jumping through endless hoops.

Of course, I quickly shook off the daydreams of bestsellers and movie deals. Like anything else worth doing, writing takes practice—lots of it. And so, I kept going.

Another idea “floated” into my mind, almost like one of those cartoon's thought bubbles: What if I turned my senior class trip to Rome—taken with my girlfriend—into a thriller? That question became the foundation for my Chris & Colleen three-book thriller series.

The State of CMS Schools: A Clear Path Forward

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools serves 140,000 students, but too many are falling behind. According to the state’s 2025 report card, 63% of students aren’t meeting college- and career-ready standards, and 44% aren’t proficient in grade-level skills. Families, teachers, and taxpayers deserve better.

The path forward is clear:

• Strengthen discipline and character formation—in safe, disciplined classrooms
• Support parents and teachers—cut bureaucracy, invest in classrooms, and enforce the Code of Conduct.
